Hi all,

just got a quick question about the best policy for replacing the passenger side mirror and housing. Got smashed in a minor scuffle with a fence post.

The part price quoted has been £107, plus about £80 labour. Though the 'offical' Mazda dealer local to me has quoted £140 for the part alone, saying it's £110, but an additional £30 for the paint?!

He says they come just with the primer colour, and you have to pay extra to have it painted to match the body. This sounds a bit weird to me, but is that the case? I figured I'd be able to specifiy the colour ('True Red') and buy that off the parts department. Not fussed about the 'official' dealer doing the work, just looking for the most competitive quote.

I'm not real up on the conversion but in the US a full replacement for a power mirror is $67-70. If you got a full replacement with heated glass it's about $100. For isntallation I would just buy the part and do it yourself. You pop off the triangular panel on the inside of the door, unplug the harness (if you have one) and remove the 3 8mm bolts. The mirror pops off and you put the new one on in reverse order... maybe a 5 minute job.

As for colors and the covers coming pre-painted..... I know in the US they can order up to '06 colors on the mirror, but they're not able to get some '07 plus colors (including true red). Some people that did the heated mirror conversion just bought black mirrors and swapped out the covers themselves.... obviously if your's is broken then that wouldn't work for you.

look on ebay.co.uk and you can find the whole mirror for like 50quid all you will have to do is get it painted if you cant find a mirrorthat isthe same color of your car.

 

The UK Prices are double ours in the states.

 

yea i know thats why i said 40quid approx 80$. I just baught mine for 30$ off ebay.

 

thanks for the replies everyone, am UK based so everything much more expensive here. Will trawl ebay for a replacement, just was surprised that the dealer said he had to charge extra for 'paint'.
