I have an 08 Mazda 3 hatch with 38K miles. Love the car to death, except for one thing. Last July, my car started having really rough idles after a cold start in the morning. I'd turn the key, the engine would start, then shudder, stall almost all the way out, and then come back. The RPMs were really high too. So I took it to my dealership and they couldn't reproduce it. I took it home, and it did it again a few days later. Took it back, left it overnight there, and again they couldn't reproduce the problem upon starting it and it wasn't throwing any codes.

Jump forward to this month. Since it's gotten warmer and humid, it's now doing it almost daily. Sometimes it stalls totally out and I have to restart it. Other times, it'll shudder when I start, it seems to stall, the check engine light comes on, and then it comes back to life.

I dropped it off last night, and once again, the service team had no problem when they started it up. And conveniently enough, the car is no longer under warranty.

What could this possibly be?

 

yea sounds like they bent you over big time, my guess would be a faulty maf/iat sensor, other than that there isnt much i can offer but parts that would end up replacing and maybe have nothing to do with it, but anyway your dealership should have looked at there symptom chart im sure they have a procedure as to how to deal with it, take it back and if they say they found the problem after your warranty is up id say screw em. Sorry about your luck

 

Is it throwing codes now could be many things give me more info does it happen hot or cold days have. U checked for unmetered air after the maf does it hold fuel pressure in the fuel lines could be a lot start simple

 

Have you figured out what it was? Mine is having the same issue.
