Ah!!The infamous Check Engine Light (CEL.) I KNOW THIS ONE!!! Welcome to the world of the modern, electronics controling everything car. That"ssomeone"s idea of whatan engine looks like from the side (profile,) BTW.
Yeah, you better find out what it is trying to tell you. It is saying that something in there is not happy but you will need someone with a code reader to tell you what it is.

The check enging light is used in conjunction with emission control, and nothing else.
You don't need to worry that your car is about to throw a rod.
Usually it is something miinor like a cracked vacume hose going to a vacum canister.
Another reason (again having to do with emission control) is the gas cap may not have been put on tightly at your last fillup.
Again, a malfunction in the emission control system is the sole reason why the check engine light comes on.
The easiest way to locate the problem is to plug a scanner into the terminal under the dash , and read the code numbers that come up.
Nine out of ten times the code will mean, and read, the evap system has an abnormality, meaning a loose or cracked vacume line.
Just a shor story here to help protect you from a dealer scam.
A year or so ago, the check enging light came on in my Dakota.
At the time I didn't have a scanner so I took the truck to the dealer.
They kept it overnight, called the next day and told me there was a major failure in the emission control system.
They said it would cost $450.00 to fix it.
It told them no, and to put the truck back together, that I would pick it up later that day.
When I got the truck home, I decided I would buy a scaner and see what was causing the problem.
I did, and that "$450.00 job turned out to be a loose gas cap.
Right on the gas cap it is printed, "a loose cap may cause the check engine light to come on" but who ever reads that?
That dealership was going to take me too the cleaners for parts that weren't needed at all.
The next time the enging light came on, my scaner told me it was the evap system that was at fault.
What that meant was, a loose or disconnected, or cracked vacume line was the culprit.
One look under the vehicle showedme the vacume line going into the vacume canister was cracked where it connects to the canister.
Simple fix.
So, there is no reason to be overly alarmed whern you first see a check engine light.
Driving a vehicle for a long period of time(weeks) without repairing the problem could adversley affect the engine but what usually happens is the catalytic converter is destroyed.
Get yourself a code scaner.
They come with a book that describes what the code numbers mean, and if you are mechanically inclined at all, you can proably fix the problem yourself.
The first thing I would do is start the engine.
If the light comes on, shut the engine off, then check to be sure the gas cap is on tightly.
Once you are sure it is on correctly, start the engine again.
If the light goes out, you have solved the problem at no cost.
If it still on, get a scaner.
Don't rely on the dealer to be honest about what is wrong.

Take your car to an auto parts store (i would recommend advance auto parts, but that's only because i work there) and have them read the code. They won't charge you, nor will most any other parts store. Have them write down the code AND the code description and take it to an independent repair shop, since the dealer will rape your wallet if your not under warranty.

RE: A weird signal on the my Mazda 3 dashboard
^^ what he said. Just go get the code read for free before worrying about it (assuming of course the car is running fine). If there was something drastically wrong with the car the CEL would be blinking to signify badness. Once you get the code post it up here as one of us may have gotten it before. (stupid P2177!!!!)

thanx for replying, I'm truly grateful ~~~~~
Ichecked the gascap and found thatthat caphas notbeen put on tightly,
but after I put on tightly, theCEL icon still remain illuminated;
will that icon disappear immediately while I put the cap on tightly?
I filled my car on last Sunday, but I found that that iconshown upon this Wednesday.
I don't know...........
Or it's safer to buy a code scanner to check ?

Long story short, you have found the "smoking gun" in the loose gas cap. Now that you have tightened it, hang in there and the light will go out.
I hope this helps.
