That is the counter balance shaft assembly but I'm not sure what all is involved removing it. Ican only suggest to take it one step at a time and take picturesas you go.

Thanks virgin.

It seems many folks actually eliminate this part by buying a part. It appears there are benefits to it.

Yes, Ive seen the conversion kit.I dont know what kind of additional vibration you get w/o it though. Usually any 4cyllarger 2.0L needs balance shafts to run more smoothly.

Hello Virgin

I'm Jo and i'm from Holland.
Now i do have problems with my MAZDA 323 1.6 from 2002 and running on gaz.
The engine stutters,as if it's running on 3 cylinders..
I did a check with the electronic read out,and no mistakes were given.
I also bougt a new air flow meter, but no joy.
Do you perhaps know, what could cause this problem.
I hope you understand what i mean!!

Thx

Jo

I understand Jo, and welcome to our little slice of Mazda heaven here too, what you are asking could be caused by a number of things imo. Fuel filter or clogged pick up in the tank, an intermittent spark coil or plug, etc....

I assume you have replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor if it has one, etc?

You could get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine at your local dealer that should be able to show the indivdual cylinder pulses. That should help you target either the suspect cylinder (plug, injectoror coil issue) or see if it is something that is affecting all cylinders at random (fuel filter, low fuel pressure, etc.)

Also make sure you don't hear any vacuum leaks under the hook (you'll hear a sucking sound) as that can cause the engine to run rough as well.
