There are plenty of us "old farts" on this board that don't understand racing slow cars.

I had a 2.0L.....it's slow by just about any standard.

My standards of speed are extremely warped though (I have friend's with 4-digit hp vehicles.)

I have an 05 2.3 liter auto. I don't try to race anyone but there was one incident i had. I was at a red light, and there was a lane merge up ahead. The guy to my right was going slower than me so i wanted to be the first car. It was a late model volvo S80 or S60, it was around midnight. I gunned it and he gunned it.I was in the lane but this ******* was persistant and was driving on the shoulder next to me to pass me. It wasn't neck and neck. He was a little behind. This went on for about 1000ft, until i decided this was dangerous and i should let this ***** go. I let him in front of me but then i was tailing him. I had HID's as my brights so i put those suckers on and agitated him some more. He thought his volvo would blow me away but i gave him a challenge he didn't expect. Hondas are easily blown away because they are designed to be fuel efficient, so that means they havea lot less torque. A civic si has about the same amount of torqueas a 2.0 liter 3.The sijust has more horsepower. Same goes for toyotas. If you lose a race, dont hate the car. Just take it on some twisty back roads andbask in the feel ofthe excellent handling that will beat a lot of cars. Enjoy your car, don't total it.

sounds like a good race but then again from what i have heard that .3 makes a difference. But if i decide to put exhaust headers and CAI on my car would I have a chance against a lot of cars if so what cars i'll prob get it up to 160hp or around there...hopefully. never totaled a car in my life hopefully i never will either.

I haven't revved up my new Mazda3 past about 4k RPMs, so I can't technically even try to race, but even in the 3k-4k range if I shift right I can fly around most cars...of course, most trucks and vans, but even most Hondas, Toyotas, Hyundais, etc. Luckilythe M3 has good HP/Torque and good power without having to rev thef**k outta each gear (i.e. Hondas). OF course, having a MTX (manual) can make the difference on any car when you're tryin to race, as you have more control and can make better use of your power and feel of the gears. I've even been surprised at the Mazda3s power @ 70 mph when you're in 5th gear and give it gas and it picks up speed, even if it takes a second or two! My Civic could NEVER do that. I can't wait to break in my car more and have a little more fun with it! [8D]

It's about going fast around corners (left AND right) instead of just in a straight line. Stick to country roads and freeway ramps, and I'll obliterate most muscle cars (whose owners probably don't know what a traction circle is...).
