Just one thing...I knew the 2.3L was faster, but doesn't Jaimie have the 2.0L?

Edit: And the stats are quite wrong in some categories...like the fuel economy - those stats are for the 2.2L Ecotec, don't be fooled. Have you ever seen a 3.5L get 23 MPG in the city? Hahaha.

And the limiter is at 112? God damn, this car has the potential for 125. >_>

That's not bad, really, because I'm sure no one who owns a Speed3 is going to drive it like a grannywagon and expect 40 MPG.

My 3i Touring is almost to 2000 miles and is averaging a shade over 31 MPG city/highway. Oddly, the harder I drive it the better my mileage seems to get. The engine must be more efficient above 3500 RPM. [sm=icon_rofl.gif]

Iagree w/Greg. The harder I seem to drive my 2.3L (within reason of course,) the better the mileage.Weather, and air density seem tohave an affect on that though too.
I average 26-28mpg w/o the A/C (more on long trips... 32-33,) and 24-26 w/the A/C and whenever traffic allows, shiftingat +4~5K!!

Well, (and still a bit off topic here) I don't completely understand it either. These modern cars are a different breed than what I grew up with.
I will say that for some time now R&T (via the BMW engineers) has been touting the positive affects on fuel mileage using3/4 throttle to get to the next gearASAP. In my 3, that seems to work well, to the tune of 1-3mpg better than being granny.

Over the past week and a half or so, I've been tryingwhat V1 has described (punchingthe gaswith some authority, not going crazy but revving the engine up a bit, getting up to speed, thus shortening the time I spend in 1st and 2nd gear). My results? They are good - mileage has been even with, and up to 2 MPG better, than being marshmellow on the gas. So, counter intuitive though it may sound, it seems to work.
SEEEEEEEE richard actually DOES have some good advice loll. haha

Not in a straight line. On a track, yes, but not on the street.

I have a 2005 Mazda3 s 5-door stick shift. I commute 22 miles one way, plus some around town lunch time. It's about 70% freeway driving with normal traffic of 55-75MPH. I do use cruise control quite often. City run is fairly smooth with a few lights. I do not use much A/C although I do try to beat other cars from the stop lights. I generally slow down before a turn and accelerate smoothly through the turn to save gas, so I don't have to punch it after the turn.
I fill up 3 times a month and kept record at each fill-up. Here is a plot of tank average mpg for the past two years. The average over the life time (41k miles) of this car is about 32 mpg. The slight difference between 06 and 07 data is probably due to the addition of acetone in part of the year of 07.

I've driven my new Mazda3 for 677 miles now and just filled up for the second time. I drive about 55 miles one-way to work, 5 days per week, mostly on freeways, speed 70mph.

My average MPG was an impressive33.8!

I'm only getting like avg 22mpg 40 miles round trip to work on the highway at 60-75mph...
Is there something wrong with my 3?? Or do I just drive to hard on the gas pedal getting to 70???...

PS
this is my 100 post wooooo-hooooo....LOL

On my '08 2.0L 5 speed I've been averaging 30.5 mpg in mixed city/hwy driving. In a skiing trip I recently got 36mpg (that's going up and down the mountain). I haven't done a flatland highway run yet, but I expect it would do a little better than 36.

My last tank MPG was 34.08. 65% Highway/35% sideroads. Only driving car to work, 55 miles, one-way. I believe my average MPH is about 42mph.
