why automatic?

RE: why automatic?
I bought the 3 for my fiancee who is going to get her drivers permit soon. It's a safe little car to get her back and forth to work and eventually to cart the kids we eventully have to the doctor and stuff. I know mazda has a very smooth 5 speed but I decided to give her the deciding vote on the transmission and the coulor of the car
Here in Canada it takes a year to get your full license, so the 3 is my daily driver for the next year or so....until I turn the keys over to her full time.
At that point I might be tempted to buy myself something nice with a 5 or 6 speed in it. But hopefully maturity will prevail and I will just buy something to get me back and forth to work

Just gut it out until you buy your next vehicle. The auto stick is more than enough fun and when your in bumper to bumper traffic you can go full auto and not have to worry about clutching.
Take the advice of somebody that has been there before, it's just not worth cutting your car up. Nothing ever goes back together perfectly...
I wish I had enjoyed what I had when I was 16-25 instead of taking it all for granted.

RE: why automatic?
A majority of all cars come in auto in North America (unlike most elsewhere in the world.)
I think we're lazy as a people. We need power everything (locks, windows, trans, etc.)
I'm not, I've got the 5-speed, crank windows and manual locks. Saved ~$700 by getting the MT over the AT, and I get better mileage. Not to mention the weight savings. I believe that my car is the mythical sub 2700 lb car with how i've got it optioned out (again making it faster.) That is until I put the full body kit on.....
It is more fun but can be a pain in traffic. I don't regret getting the stick.
My wife can't drive a stick, so she leaves my car alone....
