Default 2008 UK model Electrical problem

Hi,

Got woke up at 3am this morning by a loud beeping coming from our 2.0d Sport.

Tried to lock/unlock the car with the remotes but no response.

Dashed down and unlocked drivers door with key.

Got in, turned on ignition beeping stopped but noticed the following not working:

Central locking - all other doors still locked (deadlocked) and could be opened.
Indicators wouldnt flash - just stay on.
Auto lights not coming on.
Interior lights not coming on when door opened.

Engine started fine.

Locked it up with the key and went back to bed. Exactly the same this morning.

Started the car up to take it the dealers (luckily only 1 mile away) - still the same.

Drove up the road say 200yds - doors all unlock, indicators start working normally, everything else now back to normal.

Went back home and lit locked/unlocked fine a number of times with the remote.

Anyone had this ?? The beeping sound seemed to be coming from the rear.

Typically using it to go away for a few days on Friday !!!

That's an interesting fault. I'd suggest the beep was the parking sensors (assuming you have them) as I can't think of anything else at the rear which could beep. The dealer will need to plug into the car and see if any faults are stored in the comfort systems, which most of the faults you described are associated with. I doubt if any fault codes will have been stored though and I think it's going to be a pain for them to diagnose, especially if everything is now working OK. It sounds like it may be a poor connection to a control module or a faulty module, or you have a small rodent gnawing away at the loom, or a bad earth, or maybe some outside electrical interference causing a module to flip. Who knows? Good luck.

Hi,

As you say rang the dealer and they said unless it was happening they wouldnt be able to diagnose.

It didnt sound like the reversing beeper as that came on ok when I started the engine and put it reverse. It was louder and different.

Anyone know where the alarm unit is ?? Does it sound the horn or have a separate siren ???

Cheers

To answer myself I sat in the car and triggered the alarm.

It makes a beeping sound (the same as the other night) and the sound comes from the NSR quarter.

Its not what I would call a normal siren sound just a very loud beep and the hazards flashing.

Its even louder in the car I think !

The alarm does beep and it isn't a siren.

I would check the battery, we had problems but I didn't suspect the battery because it always started fine. Then again it was used everyday, and if left for a week or two it may have gone flat.

I bought I new battery and the problems went away.
