6-Speed Shifting Problems

6-Speed Shifting Problems
Hello everyone, new here and new to Mazda but I have an issue that I can’t seem to find an answer to no matter how hard I search. I have a 2012 Mazda5 with a 6-speed and the shifter is having issues. When I’m shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the shifter will stop me from 3rd gear, like it’s hitting a wall. I can shift out of 2nd but not into 3rd unless I wiggle the shifter. Also, it’s sometimes difficult to get out of reverse and I have to push really hard to the right to get out of the reverse area. Really frustrating. The original owner said they had something broken in the original shifter and had to replace it so the shifter assembly is fairly new. I pulled the center console apart last night and checked it out and I don’t see anything loose or broken in there anywhere. Could it be in the transmission?
Thanks in advance. This is super frustrating.

i adjusted the cable in the cabin at the shifter to what I think is the best position so that 5 & 6 work decently and so does reverse but I’m still having issues coming out of reverse and sometimes going into 3. Is it adjustable under the hood? Is there anything else it could be besides the cables?

Ok thanks everyone for the replies. I’m going to replace the fluid this weekend and see if that helps. I also found a bad motor mount so I’ll replace all three of those as well. Maybe that could play a part with misalignment too.
