DIY 3rd transponder key not working...
Hi,
Picked up a set of those flip key/FOB blanks off the auction site. I only had one key so I took the car to local place that did key programming. They cut both keys but only managed to program the transponder and FOB of one of the two. Tech said the other key was bad.
I tried to follow the outlined procedure of insert 1, ON for 5 seconds, quickly insert 2,ON for 5 second, quickly insert 3(new), turn ON and the key dash light is supposed to stop flashing. Mine continues to rapid flash for about a minute then goes back into the engine off occasional quick flash. I tried several times, sometimes only waiting a second or so. Of course it won't allow the car to crank and turning the key simply sends the key dash light into the quick flash mode.
Has anyone else gotten a bad after market transponder key?
Anything else I should try before buying a whole new key again?
Is there such a thing as a maximum number of keys or getting a locksmith to program the two keys with the OBD tool wipes out all previous keys?
Sounds like I just got a bad key...

Most Mazda's have a limit of 8 programmed keys.
However, when you programme a new key, all old keys not physically present at time of adding a new key are automatically deleted. Programming keys requires a specific in code & out code from Mazda.

You’re correct, as long as you have two working keys you can use the method you mentioned to program additional, up to 8. It can also be done with the dealer plugging in with a computer.
Sounds like either the transponder chip in the key is bad, or is missing.

Can Forscan be used for programming a second transponder chip if you only have one key that works with the immobiliser?
