Question DSC/TCS Controller

I have a 2006 diesel sport. The DSC/TCS warning light came on the other day and stayed on. The dealer has tested it and the diagnostic computer has comfirmed there is a 'fault'. That's as much detail as I could get. They quoted £1530 to replace the unit.
When I came to I left a little upset that I might have to pay this for a failed fuse, electrical component etc. that may cost 50pence.
Has anyone had this problem?

Hi Andrew,

I had the same problem. Must be common as the receptionist could tell me what the problem would be and how much it would cost before a mechanic had been near the car! I had reported the problem under warranty but made the mistake of not booking the car in until it was 10 hours out of warranty. Mazda agreed to pay 80%. The price you quoted seems correct.

Regards.

Default DSC/TSC light

Hi,
I had the same problem about 6 months ago. The light came on (along with engine management warning light). They both disappeared when I stopped and restarted after about 50miles. It has not reappeared during which time I have done about 8000miles.

I do not know how this unit works but if it is anything like the old ABS control unit on my old 626 then I would recommend making sure the brake fluid is changed completely at the recommended intervals.(every 2yrs off the top of my head).

On my 626 I had to change the ABS control unit due to the ABS light being on and am convinced the main cause was sludge and metal particle build up in the brake fluid causing one of the control pistons to jam. I am fairly sure the fluid had never been changed in 10yrs.

When the brake fluid is changed it should be flushed through to each wheel.

My car is a 2008 Mazda 5 2.0D Sport. This is something I will be checking when it is next serviced.

Good Luck.
