Default Fuel Consumption

Has anyone started a post asking what fuel consumption do you get from your maxda 5?

I have a 1.8 TS2 petrol which i bought new a fortnight ago. Have refilled my fuel tank after 300 miles and found i got only 28 mpg with hard driving.

Mind you i am not suprised considering the way i drove the car. When i picked up my new car i went to yorkshire to spend the weekend with family. Nephew/neices wanted a ride in my new motor. Took them on long windy roads and driving fast (within legal speed and safely) and making use of the revs but not thrashing it.

Now i will be driving it my 'normal' style and the next mpg figure will be greatly improved.

Our 1.8 TS2 is fully run in and we got a worst of 30 and a best of 35 over 2,000 miles in France this Summer. I hesitate to think what our usual fuel consumption is around London.

Mind you, if fuel consumption was our primary concern we would have bought the "tractor engined" version.

Hi,
have a 5 diesel sport and have regularly got 40-45 to the gallon in mixed driving. Whilst towing an 1100kg caravan and carrying 4 people, bikes etc got a creditable over 30 mpg going, and 28 mpg coming back (we weren't hanging round) from the Midlands to the Black Isle, a journey of 400 miles each way. Good towcar and the fuel savings should just be enough to keep putting new tyres on! The figures for the petrols seem a little disappointing considering I was achieving that in a Hyundai Trajet which was a 2.0 l petrol engine and somewhat heavier.

Agreed - we can live with it -but our Berlingo (which had the aerodynamics of a housbrick) mangaged better figures even when seriously overladen (500+kg) as well as four bikes on the bike - never worse than high 30s (admittedly a 1600 but it was working far harder than the Mazda).

My petrol Mazda 2 is (relatively) much better - it beats my Citroen C2 despite being a 1400 compared with 1100.

In our 56 reg Furano (2ltr Petrol), I got 39.5 mpg on a trip back from the Peak District to Suffolk. This was at steady pace and with minimal traffic jams etc. This was based on the fuel computer however, which I've not validated and have read elsewhere that it's not overly accurate.

Overall I'm happy with the economy of the car over long runs, but short local runs and a heavy pedal do tend to drink the fuel rather alarmingly.

Cheers
Rob

when i brim the tank to full on my 5 diesel i get about350 miles on a tank before the light comes on .only thing is there is about 15 litres still in the tank .i have tryed to run out on the light so far i have bravely gone 80 miles on the light .so i would say for 60 litres you can reachmaximum of 450miles .not bad for the size of car.and i do tend to put my foot down
