How to reverse the direction of the manumatic shifter?
Hi guys,
I have a 5 with the automatic transmission, and I'd like to push forward to shift up, and pull back to shift down...I find that much more intuitive, and my VW is that way as well.
I've had the plastic housing apart around the shifter and can see several wires...I'll bet if I cut the appropriate two wires switch them, I'll be able to make the change I want.
Anyone have any idea which two wires they are? Or where I can find a wiring diagram? (By the way, I've had a heck of a time trying to find a service manual...can someone recommend where to find one?)
Thanks...

I found a link to the manuals here...

I am not sure of the year though, as some of these don't match my 2007 Mazda5. Mine is a newer one as the original 2007 Mazda5's had the narrow gas pedal like the Mazda3 but mine is further over. Also, my engine seems to be EXACTLY like the Mazda3.
I made the switch on my auto.
1. Twist off the gear shift ****.
2. Pry off the top of the shift console (front first).
3. Pry off the foot plates on either side of the console.
4. Remove the screws on either side of the console.
5. Disconnect the cigar/auxiliary power cord.
6. Pull off the console.
7. Disconnect the shifter plug on the driver/left side of the shifter.
8. On one end, you will find a green wire with a white stripe in the corner slot. On either side (one beside, one below), you will find a light blue with an orange stripe and a light blue with a black stripe. Swap these two wires. (Insert a straight pin in the top of the front and pull the wires out the back).
9. Re-assemble in reverse order.
