Default k&n vs. oem

just recently replaced my k&n with a purolator filter... now granted the k&n had been in for at least a year... but... after installing the oem purolator... have gained over all mpg and low end power. now I also cleaned my MAF sansor after tossing the k&n, so, to whom it may concern... unless your going to run your engine at 5000+ rpms... don't waste your money!!!!

It's highly unlikely your fuel economy has improved at all unless your MAF was really-REALLY cruded up; this might just be a case of getting one of those unusual tanks where you're travelling downhill with the wind to your back for the entire distance.

well when I said over all improved I meant one half to one mile gain, nothing extraordinary... just as a whole was improved, and as you say... could be the wind. as for the MAF, just figured I would clean it after having the k&n in there. my point being... I saw no significant gain with the k&n vs. the oem, in fact the oem is slightly better for the daily driver.

The fact is, regardless of whether there's, no restriction (i.e. no filter at all), low restriction (aledgedly K&N), stock restriction (clean factory filter), or even high restriction (very dirty factory filter), your fuel economy won't change one bit; physical impossibility. As for the MAF, probably not a bad idea to give it a good cleaning after having the K&N on there; the oiled element has been known to be rather unkind to downstream MAF sensors.

as was my original point... why spend the money for a headache and very little if any gain at all.
