Key Fob Proximity Sensor - disable?
I was wondering if there is a way to disable the proximity sensor that seems to be part of the key fob.
I wanted to make a spare key to keep with me in my other carr - my wife is the one who drives the Mazda5. I hate these big key fobs of late as my carr is from the 70s and I have an old style flat steel key. I asked a key cutter and he said he could make me one, but I would only be able to open the doors, and he explained the proximity sensor in the key fob.
Honestly, I don't care about security. Nobody around here is going to steal a Mazda5, so I don't know why they go through all these security measures, probably innssurance related, but no matter. I just want a small flat key to keep with me. We do not have an alarm, so I'm not concerned about using a non-fob key with the alarm activated. They key cutter brought that up and I told him it is not an issue.
I don't want to start a discussion on security, as I'm sure there are many opinions on that. I just want to explore the ways in which to disable the proximity sensor function.
Thanks,

I very much doubt you can disable the immobiliser. It's usually integral with the engine ECU and if it can't sense a registered key then it won't start the car. It would render an immobilser fairly useless if it was easy to turn off.
