I have just bought a 08 Madza 5 1.8 ts2. I am bit disappointed by the fuel consumption. On a motorway , driving at about 80mph , i barely managed 300miles. I was not held in any traffic, actually the roads were clear , on a sunday morning. The air con was switched off . I am a bit concerned if there is a problem with my car , i would therefore like to ask other Mazda 5 owners, how much do they cover on a full tank ,and roughly how big is the reserve?. When i filled mine, it was empty , but just took 52 litres. Thank you

 

I will allow the other 5 series owners to answer your mileage question, but I wanted to inform you that it is not a good idea to run the fuel tank on any car too low.

On any car, you may have contaminants in the tank that are more likely to be pulled into the fuel pick up when the tank is low. This can cause several problems starting with the fuel "sock", basically a pre-filter, at the end of the pick up tube itself. And even more important, on any modern fuel injected car, the electric fuel pump lives in the fuel tank and relies on the surrounding fuel for cooling. W/O it, the pump can become too hot and burn out... an expensive fix.

While on the subject, it is not wise to overfill the tank either. Overfilling can allow raw liquid fuel into the evaporative fuel return system. That system is only designed to handle fuel vapor and will become overtaxed if liquid fuel is allowed to enter it.
It's better to shut the pump off a little early rather than to try and squeeze in the last possible drop.

I have a 2.0 sport & it takes about £55-£60 to fill,I would be lucky to get 300 miles from it! so I would say yes sounds about right what you got!

The 5 is a bigger, taller heavier version of the 3. I am lucky to go over 300 miles on a full tank to "E" on any given week, or about 26- 27mpg (+/-8.85L/100kms.) The best I ever did on a trip was 32.3mpg (7.28L/100,) though we were pretty well loaded down... and my wife was driving half og the time
The fact that you state you were going 80mph, well, the wind resistance at that speed alone will reduce fuel mileage by up to 20%. That's well documented elsewhere.

 

I will agree also... I'm averaging 25-26 on a tank (mpg) per tank of gas, or petrol if you prefer, the most I've got was about 360 miles. I could get more but the wife has a lead foot

 

Let's not forget the difference between US and Imperial gallons when comparing. They are different things altogether.

hi i have a new 2012 mazda 5 the best i can get with the new 2.5 motor is from 22 mpg to 24 mpg but its winter and the motor has only 900 miles on it . my old 2009 mazda 5 with a 2.3 motor got the best of 32mpg but most of the time it got from 23 to 28 mpg .. i have been reading and talking to the dealer rep.for ohio at my mazda dealer and big things are comming he told me mazdas SKY g motor will be out this fall theres a 1300cc and a 1500cc SKY G motor the 1300 gets 70 mpg the 1500 SKY G motor gets 50 mph they both are trubo charged motors . this should help sales of mazdas big time they will be in the mazda 3 boy if they put the sky g motor in a mazda 2 theres allso going to be a new mazda SUV the CR 5 i was watching the news today gas is going to be from $3.80 to $4.00 a gal. this summer they allso said in cal. its already from $3.50 to $3.70 gal . spencerfvee...
