Default mazda5 + slow???

We are looking for a new car....one with the ability to seat 6 or7 and that also has the dvd for the kids...I am wanting to stay away from the mini van scene so that is why we are looking at the mazda 5.....anyway we drove one this saturday and it was very underpowered, especially in second gear as it seems it shifts out of 1st to early...we are looking at a grand touring loaded out...anyone else have thoughts on these being underpowered....We are coming from a trailblazer ss with 400hp so I know it won't be comparable I just thought it would have a little more grunt than it did....

I recently bought a GT w/nav for my wife to replace a Rav4 V6 which had a 269HP V6 that goes 0-60 in 6.4s. While putzing around town, it's perfect. There's enough power to get around. I felt the low-end pick-up was acceptable. However, we took it on the highway this past weekend and as I had predicted, power is kinda lacking. Once it gets up to speed, it's fine. It's just getting there. And forget around passing ability compared with your Trailblazer. But hey, it's a minivan for all intents and purposes, it's not supposed to be fast. So my advice is, don't compare apples with oranges. Just think about it this way, you'll get into less trouble with the Mazda5. I miss the power and space of the Rav4 but the more comfortable seats, gas mileage, and sliding doors make up for that.

I agree with comparing apples to oranges but I just thought it would have a little more zoom-zoom....I think it would be fine around town but the passing power on the highway is what was bothering me....hey everyone that has one seems to be doing fine so can't be that bad right?
