Smile Missing Antenna Mast 2008 Mazda5

Just purchased this auto yesterday. (USA Mazda5 Touring in South Texas) Is there some place the antenna mast is stowed and I don't know where to look? Where can I get a replacement mast if mine is missing?

Is the antenna mast for the radio? FM? GPS? I have a touring trim package and don't have the GPS as factory equipment.

Thanks for the help.

If you bought it new and it is not in the back some place the dealer should get you one.
On my MZ3 the front license plate bracket, the floor mats and manual were in the back of the car in plastic bags, now it had just come off the truck and had not even had the plastic removed off of the outside or the seats when I got it, but the antennae mast was on it.
More than likely someone walking the lot took it off because they were missing theirs.

Thanks, Siber Express. My Mazda5 is not new; about 20,000 miles. Someone probably needed it worse than I did.

Is it a radio mast? Thanks.

Yes it is just a radio antennae, about $17 from your local Mazda Stealership For the Shorty, which if it was built after 1/01/08 was the stock antennae.

Question Broken Off

Looking more carefully, I discovered that someone had broken the antenna off leaving the threaded portion in the base. That part is about 3/16 inch in diameter. I plan to drill a hole and try some type of removal tool to unscrew the sheared-off portion from the base.

Any other ideas? I hope I don't have to purchase a new base.

As a joke, I was thinking about putting a wire coat hanger in there. Maybe not.

You might try to put a small screwdriver in there and see if it will twist it out, it should be loose since the rubber on the mast itself is what tightens it down. I do believe the actual size is 5mm for the threaded part.

On my 2009 the threaded portion is on the base not on the antenna so I don't think I'd be in a hurry to try and remove it. Get a new antenna first and see what's what.

I have a Sirius Sat. Radio - would sure be nice if you could replace the stock antennae with one that would work for both FM and Sat, and then just split off behind the dash, one line to the deck, and one to the sat receiver. Maybe some day.

Here's the picture. Hope you can see the issue I have. OTOH, I don't see how another mast will screw down in this. Thanks.

[edit] Just discovered the photo gallery. Here is the photo.
