Default New Mazda 5 Owner

Hi All,

Just purchased an 06 mazda5 in CT here, and plan on doing some light modification. The first thing is adding an auxiliary input, which I plan on doing a whole separate thread about. I also think the speakers and/or amp need some upgrading.

It seems that there is either a 4 speaker or 6 speaker configuration on the Mazda5. Mine didnt come with a manual or window sticker, so I have no way of knowing whether or not I have a touring, or what stereo I have. I can tell you I do not have XM/Sirius, my cd player is six disc but will not play MP3s. I do have steering wheel audio controls.

What is the stereo setup in this car. Does it have a seperate amp that I can just replace without changing the factory look of the car? How can I tell how many speakers I have? I can only find 4 enclosures, two in the front doors and 2 in the way back. Does anyone have any reccomendations for good speaker updates? The current system is underpowered and tinny, although my radio reception is phenomonal!

On the four speaker setup, there is one speaker in each front door and one on either side in the "way back" as you call it (it does make sense though eh?) on the six speaker setup, it's the same as the four except that there is two tweeters on top of the front door panels of both sides. yes I know it's cheezy, but six speakers are six speakers. as far as upgrades, 5 x 7 are the factory, I've heard that 6 x 8 will fit but don't quote me on that.

Good info, so long story short, no outside amp, and it doesnt matter if i have the 4 or 6 speaker setup, because its the same 4 locations regardless, right?

same four locations correct, as far as an outside amp, I can't answer because I don't know, my guess would be no (Knowing Mazda), might be best to upgrade the works. I've been looking for a location to place an external sub myself, without sacrificing any space, but seems a bit complicated.
