Default Sluggish synchro-mesh?

Hi, i'm pretty happy with my 56 plate Maz5 so far, on Avon tyres have not noticed tyre wear as yet, although only covered 1k miles.
What does bug me is the sluggish synchro-mesh from 1st to 2nd gear, and then back to 1st. All other gears are nice and smooth.
I really have to wait a while before the stick just drops into 1st/2nd gear, my wife's Mini Cooper is much much quicker. If i rush the change, i don't hear a crunch, but you can feel something baulking a bit.
It reminds me of driving an OLD transit.
Is this quite normal?
p.s. i'm loving the interior fit and finish

I've got the same issue with my 09 mazda3i. Perhaps normal for our gear box.
