Towing with Mazda 5

Mazda5 Towing
I had the same problem of the Mazda being on the smaller side and a third kid coming along, but not really wanting to trade up and spend a bunch more money on a SUV or full size minivan and gas only to load it up for a week or two a year (plus the roof bag was a pain, especially in the rain). So I looked alot online and found it consistent that outside the US the construction is basically the same (engine, frame, etc.) and towing is rated, so I decided to give it a try. It worked fine this summer with my little 1,000lb HarborF trailer. The Mazda 5 is auto by the way (wife's car/needs). I've had manuals since I started driving and towing, so know how to be nice to a tranny when needed. The hitch is Drawtight with 2-1/2" ball rise. I'd rather have the Curt which bolts to the frame, not the emergency tow hook, but that's what I found at the time. In the end, you can tow with the Mazda5, just be responsible, prepared, and safe. I've towed 2,500 lbs 30 miles or so in a pinch with my old 100hp 2001 Saturn SL manual and although it was slow, it handled ok and I was safe with the load.
