Default Used AC compressor worth it?

Hi,

AC isn't blowing cold in the 2009 Mazda 5. It never worked in the 6+ months I've had the van. After fixing the a wire, the compressor clutch engages now but makes a rattling noise and no cold air. Haven't hooked up the gauges yet but the noise need to be fixed. A new compressor from part store is $300+, online sellers is $200+, the auction site has new/rebuilt knockoff for $100.

Wondering if anyone ever had success with a used unit? I can get one for $25 at the local salvage.

Thanks.

My thoughts salvage vs ebay.
salvage.... just because it is holding are freon doesn't mean it a good compressor.
$25 plus $30 for Freon. $55 total. lets just say that compressor is weak. you will spend another $30 on Freon regardless of the give you a free replacement. now you are at $85-ish.

ebay compressor can be somewhat cheap.
I replaces AC condenser drier expansion valve freon all for like under $200. blows ICE COLD.( on my mazda 5)
I've done ebay systems on 3 cars already. it is the way to go for me.

Be sure to check the to see where it is sold with oil in the compressor or not.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to tinker with this on the weekend. I've got another car that won't pass emission and tags are due soon.

Too many drivers and cars in the household not enough "mechanically inclined" family members to help out. Everyone expect uncle wallet (me) to keep them rolling trouble free....
