Default What else...Tyre wear - The solution ???

Ok add me to the list of owners that tyres that are as bare as a badgers A**e (fronts & rears)

8.5k Miles, 1 year old Diesel Sport bought from new, it would be bad enough but I knew there was a problem before we bought it but thought there had been some cars put on the road with poorly set wheel alignment and the few cases that were about a year or so ago was down to that.
I talked with the Sales Manager & a Mechanic about this issue & said I don't want to be in this position in a year............anyway they checked the alignment before we took delivery & they said it was fine.

I would like to log on this thread everybodys thoughts/experiences on what you have been told the
solution/fix is other than throwing new tyres on & to a lesser extent tyre pressures
whichI don't think is the main cause.

Is there suspension mods in the pipeline from Mazda? geometry settings that should be used asfrom Mazda's themselves rather than some dealers making right or wrong changes? or will Mazda keep paying out (in certain cases) hoping that the situation will go away.

I intend to try & find out over the next couple of days & see what i am told but would like to hear others
story's not on tyre wear but what you have been told(from Mazda UK or your Dealer) the next step isto resolve it.

Cheers,

Co.

I don't know if this is the rightplace for my message... anyway, here it is!

I sent an e-mail to Mazda Motors Sweden about the tyre wear. I have ordered a 2008 Mazda 5 Sport and was a little concerned about the tyre wear. They are familiar with the problem and they replied to me and told me that it is solved in production line now. They have changed the wheel angles in the rear and the car is equipped with another type off tyre. Hopefully this is true so I don't have toget new tyres to soon on my Mazda 5 Sport (similar to the UK Mazda 5 Furano). They didn't tell me anything about any front wheel adjustments though. Hopefully the new angles and messurements will be able to apply on older Mazda 5 as a solution of the tyre wear problem.

(Feel free to move this message to thecorrect section/topic if this is in the wrong place...)

Hey blue swede, You have stated exactly what I have been told so far, adjustments to the wheel alignment & a change in the Dunlop sport tyres is the cure - lets hope its true. However no real mention of the fronts which on our car was worse than the rears
I'm waiting to hear what the offer is for who pays what, one thing i have found out is that our Mazda dealer is about a tyre's price dearer for 4 than say Black circle etc etc (a sort of reverse buy one, get one for free deal, its more like buy 4 pay for 5 deal !)

The other thing is having to stump up possibly a few hundred ££'s for tyres when it should be only something to worry about 2-3 years down the line of ownership not a nasty surprise at the first service!

call 01322 622750 and ask for Robert Hancock, he is the main man giving out the money for mazda 5 tires. the problem is the cars came with weak dunlop tires when new, infact the tires should be bridgestones, the dealers will fob u off with excuses like the tyres are under or over inflated and you need to pay for some of it,when mazda should pay for all of it as they sold the car with defective tires but pretend the drivers caused the problems

Hi all,

My car has been in my Mazda dealership for 2 weeks as of tomorrow morning with various problems(which you can read about of other threads) all of the work was done within the 1st week and since i have been waiting for answers about who is paying whatfor my 4 tyres that are all bald on the inside edge, onWednesday i was told that Nicole at Mazda UK has agreed to pay the full amount for the rear tyres and only 50% for the fronts, when i questioned this i was told that the front tyres have got some wear across the tyres aswell as being bald on the inside edge!
I have also been told that they have sorted out the geometry problem on the rear wheels but dont know of any problem with the front, so my question is if there is no problem with the front geometry 1. why are Mazda paying any money towards the fronttyres 2. why have the tyres worn so bad (like the rear) 3. when the tyres have been changed are they going to wear the same way again.
i look forward to hearing from anybody else with the same problems.

Some points to add – May Contain Nuts, The fronts wearing could be down to the “Old†Dunlop tyres although Dunlop seem to dispute there has even been a change of tyre spec??
In our case the front & back geometry was adjusted as well as the Tyres being changed

Also about percentage refunds, I’m pretty sure the outstanding amount we are being asked to pay could be or very close to the Cost price of the tyres & therefore we are actually paying 100% for tyres and providing profit in a lot of cases. I seem to remember hearing the comment “but we won’t be making anything on that though†& “that’s less than we buy them in forâ€â€¦â€¦â€¦food for thought !

Hi,
I'm still not convinced by any of the excuses for the premature tyre wear (esp inside edges on the front) and surely Dunlop would be crying foul if there wasn't some degree of guilt on their part. However, I had the fronts replaced, but asked for Hankook Ventus Sports (XL) instead of Dunlops as by now I was disenchanted with, and suspicious of the Sport 2050s and the price for a pair of tyres to be prematurely spoiled was too high. I haven't done enough mileage since to come to any conclusions but the cost I had to pay was around £56 each. My usual independant tyre place quoted £90 each for the Hankooks, fitted, balanced and new valve, so I was only disappointed by the percentage contribution from Mazda, not the overall cost. I know that the Dunlops are considerably more expensive and as OEM equipment dealers may get them cheaper and your point may be quite valid.
Let's see if Mazda Uk wish to deny that?

Dave

I was told by my dealer that the issue was with the rear tyres but the fronts were also being replaced regardless of uneven wear if they were found to be within a given batch of tyres andthe car was within agiven VIN range.
