Default 05 Mazda 6 Gear Release button

I have an 05 Mazda 6 with Automatic transmission. My gear shifter is stuck in park and will not move. The guy at the dealership said there should be a gear release button near the shifter but I cannot seem to find it. Any help will be much appreciated!!!

06 Mzda6 never heard of a "release button" have you tried turning the key in the ignition?

I have tried turning the key in the ignition, pumping the break and even turning off the engine and restaring. I spoke to the guy at the dealership and he mentioned a gear release button.

It's possible your brake light switch on the pedal has gone bad. If this is the case, (it) isn't telling the override that your foot is on the brake pedal, so the car is not going to let you shift out of park.

Not a guaranteed indicator, but check if you have brake lights. If not, your switch is dead and there's your problem.

As for a gear release - the mechanic is nuts.....

Otherwise, are you on any kind of hill/slope? Try pushing the car back and forth a few times. I once parked on a slope that cased me a PITA to get out of Park. I ended-up setting the parking brake to relieve some of the pressure as I went to leave Park.
