p.s. 225/45-17 is a much more popular size in either summer, winter or all season tires. This size or the OE 215/50-17 is so call low profile and normally is only available in high performance tires which usually means softer rubber for sticking to the road. And that equals shorter mileage. I don't think you will ever find any 60,000 miles tires in these sizes. It's not easy to get the best of both worlds. The surveys also show tread wear ratings. Good luck and have fun shopping and driving.

I've gotten 40,000 miles out of Toyo Proxes FZ4's in a 225/45R17....I'll probably replace them in ~2-3 months. They did fine for me in the snow here in Michigan and only cost ~$100/ea

My wife's 6 had the stock Michelins on the 17" wheels. They sucked in the snow (she was stuck numerous times with the car stopped and the tires spinning with no traction...in only a couple of inches of snow.) We picked up some 18" wheels for summertime and put 205/50R17 Dunlop Wintersport M3's on and they are INCREDIBLE in the snow.

I heard the 225s rub in the wheel well, and if they dont they make the speedo off...Have you guys experienced this problem when you have upgraded?

I have 225/45-17 and they don't rub anything. The speedo is off a bit (shows 60 mph but actual speed is only 58. 6) because the 225/45 diameter is smaller. Go to www.1010tires.com, they have a very good size calculator. Other things to note: same size tires may not have the same actual widths when measured and a different rim will also change the actual width. Go to www.tirerack.com and look at the spec. (actual width and diameter) of the tires you are interested in.
