Default '06 Mazda 6 Power Loss/Hesitation Issues

I'll try to explain this the best I can. I have a 2006 Mazda 6, with the 2.3 engine, just passed 100,000 miles although this issue has been going on for the last 5000 miles/2 months or so. It seems sluggish when trying to accelerate, with some hesitation. Near constant downshifting, while it never did this before unless I was on a steep hill. Now anytime in gear, whether 3, 4, or 5, if I need to get a little extra power, it downshifts and hesitates. Doesn't matter if I'm on a hill or not.

This started awhile back, but it took a couple of weeks for any codes to show up. They were P0455 (Evap large leak) and P2187 (too lean at idle, bank one.) I looked these two codes up and thought it may be the purge solenoid valve. I replaced it, cleared the codes, and immediately the problem appeared to be fixed, power/acceleration back to normal and not the constant downshifting. However, this only lasted a few days. Then the loss of power/hesitation was back. It took another couple of weeks for another code to show up. This time it was P0441 (incorrect purge flow.) I replaced the purge solenoid again, thinking maybe I happened to get a bad part the first time around. I did not clear the code this time, but wanted the computer to clear itself. After a day or so, the check engine light went off, and only then did the power return to normal. This lasted 2 days, and I'm now back to the loss of power/hesitation/near constant downshifting. This has got me a confused and frustrated to say the least.

Questions: Is there anything that could make the purge solenoid valve go bad? And if it's not the purge solenoid valve after all, then why both times after replacing it did the condition improve, albeit for only a short time?

Any insight would be appreciated.
