2004 6s redline?
maybe i should have searched first but i found something iteresting about my 6...................now most places i have read say that the 6 is posed to redline at 6500rpms, correct? now i also read the the 6 gives its max power at 6300rpms, correct? now my thing is that i have got on my throttle a couple times and have noticed no cut out(limit) at 7000rpms, havent taken it too much further than that( fear of breaking something) because i also read the the internals only like to handle up 6700rpms happpily. i have the 5 speed manual tranny..................anyone else notice a higher redline than listed under the cars specs. and also doe it make any sense to make a cars max power output so close to the listed redline? i race cars so it doesnt really make since to me, as soon as u feel the power its technically time to shift according to the listed redline. anyone have any input on this?

RE: 2004 6s redline?
i drive a mazda 3s which has the same "6500" redline but when i auto-X i find myself bringing it to 7000 all of the time. in four cylinder engines the max power output is always going to be at the top of the scale.

RE: 2004 6s redline?
when i was on the prelude website there was a huge discussion about redline vs rev limiter
to stop all confusion i am going to say this,
"redline" is the term used to describe the actual redline on your tach
"rev limiter" is the device or computer control that stops your engine from hurting itself by revving higher than the valvetrain can handle
your powerband is however the factory made the cam specs.
your shift points and times should be based on the cars powerband as viewed on a dyno. since every car is different everyone should dyno there own car and see where the power drops off and shift before or as that happens and whithin the limits of the gearing so as to not fall out of the powerband. (that sounds kind of intelligent)
my prelude lost power after 5200 rpms, but revved to 6700. i shifted at 65-6600 in first but after that i shifted after 5200 to keep my power up and i saw a small difference usually about .1-.2 sec faster in the 1/4 better.
my TA makes power all the way to its rev limiter at 5700 so i would always take that car all the way.
so def if you get the chance to, dyno the car and find out when to shift on your own car...
