2004 mazda 6 cv/wheelbearing
hi I have a 2004 mazda 6. Recently it has been making a whirring noise while driving straight which intensifies when I turn to the left. When I turn to the right the noise decreases. The noise is also the loudest at approximately 80 km per hour.
When I had it on the hoist (wheels off the ground) and put the car in gear the passenger side wheel turned but not the drivers side. But while it was still in gear I slightly applied the brakes and then passengers side stopped turning and the drivers side turned instead.
The passenger side rotor also wobbles slightly.
Thanks.

There's a couple of bolts missing in the passenger side rotor and one missing in the driver side rotor. That might account for the wobble. The driver side cv joint also moves when you rank on it. Is that normal? As for the original whirring noise could it be the cv joint? Thanks.

I did not reply because I don't know the particulars of your vehicle. I never had a car that had bolts on the rotors. Usually the rotors are held in place with the wheel and lug nuts. I don't know why yours is different.
Your exercise on the hoist makes me think that the front brakes are uneven. You also get some pulsation. That means your car needs a brake job, no matter what.
If you are lucky the brake job will clear the whirr as well. In fact some brake pads have a little metal tongue on them that supposed to make noise when the pads are used up.
All the best.
