Default 2004 Mazda6 computer problems at NYS inspection?

I have a 2004 Mazda6. I brought it in for New York state inspection yesterday and my mechanic said the inspection computer could not talk to my car. He reset the car computer and said to drive it a couple of days and then bring it back. I had this same problem 2 years ago and discovered that there was a recall on my car which updated the on-board computer, and it solved the problem (my mechanic couldn't get it to work without the update). I just called the dealer to see if there was anything I was missing at this point and he said I was not. I should say that I've never seen the check engine light come on while driving the car.

Is anyone aware of problems with the NYS inspection computer talking to Mazda6's? I'd rather not have to bring it to the dealer for inspection because it's not conveniently located.

Update it sounds like the recall I had done was MSP10 (http://www.imazda.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10131).

I had the same problem here in Ga. Took it to an inspection place & the guy said something was wrong with my car, that it was not communicating with his machine. Took it to the dealer the next day & it passed no problems. A lot of these "testers" do not know how to properly test our cars.

The car should not test any differently than any other car, and there should not be anything tricky to "properly test" it. My mechanic said my car is the only one he has had this problem with. I will let the mechanic have another go of it on Monday, if that does not work I will take it to the dealer. I will report back on the results.

BTW is it possible that your mechanic applied the MSP10 recall before trying the inspection?

Mazda pulled my Vin & it is not in the range for that update. The CAN system on our cars can be tricky. Trust me, it happens.

Good news, it passed on the second attempt. My mechanic is still grumbling about it, he said my car is the only one he's ever had problems with.
