Default 2009 Mazda 6 - A/C Mildew Odor?

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of buying a 2009 Mazda 6 (i Sport), but I read about the A/C mildew/musty odor problem on older models. I read the (latest?) TSB on that and it only mentioned 2003 - 2008 Mazda 6. Does anybody have this issue with their 2009 Mazda 6?

Thanks!

Jason

Not sure why you would use 2009 and "older model" in the same sentence.
This is a potential issued for all cars, not just Mazda. I wouldn't worry about it.

Never had this issue with my 2002 chevy cavalier. It might be because there is no cabin air filter on cavaliers.

Before I get to where I'm going, usually a distance of 1-2 blocks, I'll turn off the a/c and turn up the fans. This blows out any of the cold air left in, and doesn't let it sit and become stagnant. This helped me in getting rid of the smell and avoiding it, so I hope this works for you.

This is probably a common problem, but nothing to skip buying one over - I love my '07. The solution for me is just to replace the filter as soon as I notice the smell; it ranges from about 2-6 months per filter. I got soaked for this (about $50) at the dealer, until I found the online tips on how to DIY - so stupidly simple that I'm kicking myself for ever paying anybody. The filter is behind the glovebox, and no tools required to drop the glovebox lid to get at it (I assume no changes for the '09). Filters are real cheap on line. A caution is that they seem to have sharpened every metal edge up under the dash, so I wear gloves (that, or band-aids later).
