Airbag light on - please help a nooob!!
Hi all!
Bear with me I'm a noob, so not sure I'm in the right section.....
Just bought a 2002 Mazda 6 - loving the car but have a couple of issues I'm looking for advice on.
Firstly is an airbag light issue. I thought I had done away with the dreaded airbag light after defecting from Alfa's but oooooh no.
Have a fault code
B2234 - Airbag Driver inflator circuit resistance low on squib - loop#2
Basically the resistance is only 0.2 ohm when I think it should be about 2ish?
I'm guessing it's wiring and want to know where to check. Is it the two connectors under the driver's seat? or are there other connectors I need to check? I've checked those under the seat, put some electrical contact cleaner and pushed them tight but still no luck - light stays on. Out of interest would the light go straight out if I fixed the issue or would the code need clearing?
Strangely, the airbag light flashes once -then nine times. It does this several times before remaining on?? *JUST REALISED THIS IS POINTING TO A CODE 19 EG DRIVERS SIDE FAULT - so ignore that bit!*
Any help on this gratefully appreciated as I have failed my MOTon it!!
Also - and completely unrelated. My car passed the mot on everything else and yet I have a strange knocking from the rear - doesnt appear to be a loose exhaust and doesn't always notice over speedbumps. Although it does notice on acceleration or over an uneven road? I did notice that one rear shock might have some leakage but the knock seems to be from the opposite side???
Thoughts on this also appreciated
Thanks

B2234 is the Drivers airbag in the steering wheel, not the drivers seat.

Ok, so I'm getting conflicting information!
General opinion is it's likely to be a faulty clock spring.
I spoke to the service peeps at a mazda garage who tells me it is part of the steering wheel - so I need to get a new one. However my friend who is a Merc specialist says that as far as he knows, all clock springs are in the angle sensor - not part of the steering wheel and that the guy at Mazda was probably a a cleaner or something lol
Just need to knwo who is right. Don't want to spend £££'s on a steering wheel if it isn't the problem!!!
Thanks

I have decided to change the steering wheel and clock spring (now that I have established that they are separate!)
Out of interest, if the fault was remedied would I have to reset the airbag light or would it go out of it's own accord?
Is there any way to reset the the light without diagnostic software?

What you need to do is,
A: disconect your battery, & wait 5 minutes.
B: Remove the drivers airbag.
C: Make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead & the steering wheel is straight.
D: Remove the steering wheel.
E: Remove the clock spring. ( its separate to the steering wheel & is screwed to the indicator / wiper stalk assembly)
F: Do a continuity test of each pin/wire of the clock spring.
**************************************************
At work we have dummy resistor that we plug into the airbag plug to simulate the air bag and recheck for codes to check if its the airbag or the clock spring.

After spending over £250 on fault finding and parts - it's been solved!!
It was a simply loose connection / short on an airbag plug behind the radio??!! All that expense for nothing
Doh!!
Oh well - at least it's sorted - had no idea there was an airbag plug behind the radio!!!
