I have read about a ticking sound before at different forums but I just realized I had it on mine. Under the engine cover or that vicinity there is a ticking sound. It is not a definite ticking sound since it is a low tone sound but it definately ticks and I am not sure what it is. I just filled up all the fluid under the hood so it is not that. If any of you have had this problem or something like it let me know! I am trying to get my 6 serviced for tuesday since I have no school but I have no clue if I will be able to get it. Oh BTW, its an 2006 m6 sport sedan with 6k miles.

 

I had a ticking noise on my '06....it ended up being the tensioner belt, which they replaced... After that, no more ticking! Make sure they look at that and actually hear the noise. I dropped my car off in the morning and they had to call me to come show them what I was talking about... It took them forever to figure out what it was, even after I was there, pointing it out.

 

Well I am not sure of where it is, but when the car is idle you can hear it ticking and track it so somewhere by the engine. But I will let them know about the belt. Thanks island

 

Mine was mainly when I idled too....and they thought I was nuts. The tech had to pull out his little stethescope type thing and throw it down in the engine bay to figure out what it was.

 

I will definately make sure they hear it because I don't wanna go back since I am a good 45 minuets away from the dealer. Hmm maybe I will get a m3 as a rental car.

 

Mine did that too, but it was actually the belt tensioner and they replaced it for me...
