Default Automatic Transmission - Manual Shift Mode Problem

I have a 2005 Mazda 6S Automatic with the manual shift mode. I've noticed that when I am in manual mode, and I shift down to 1st gear, the car engine stalls or jumps as if you really have a clutch that you don't depress correctly in a manual car. Whether I downshift all the way to first gear or let the car roll to a stop on 2nd gear, the car jumps, jerks, or stalls. Is there something wrong with my transmission? I have only 1700 miles on the car. Should I take it back to the dealer? I'd appreciate a lot of feedback.

Thanks

i believe all mazdas do that. you really dont have a need to go down into first gear by downshifting. that is the gear you need to start with in order to move, not too stop. 2nd gear is sufficient for stopping or downshifting to a stop. yes, if put in first gear you will jerk because that is a relatively quick gear to get power from your car to move. if you must downshift, the easiest way is to let the car do it for itself, it will automatically lower gears when you brake.... even in manual shift mode.

When using the manual shifter on the auto trans, I don't ever downshift to 1st, but let the auto trans take it down to 1st by itself. I'll downshift from 4th to 3rd to 2nd to slow the engine, and let the auto take over from there.

one time i took the 6 up the the canyon and using the AT manual...

i shift too much that the computer doens't know what gear is suppose to be on. the number of gear you are on on the dash disappeared.

i've never had that happen. I've had all of my gages turn off on me all at once so i couldnt see my speed or what gear i was in or even what time it was on my head unit. maybe that is also something that happened to you.
