Default Brake Light Modification (all 4 lights)...

well within the next day or so, i'm going to be getting into the modification of my tail lights. what i am going to do is get all 4 lights to come on when the brake is applied instead of just the outer two lights. not only will this be a nice little safety feature for driving, but a cool modification as well.

i'll let you all know how things go and get some pictures as well. until then, have a great day/night!

X = brake light on
O = light off
* = spoiler brake light on

Before Mod:

******
X O________O X

After Mod:

******
X X________X X

That is a great idea. Don't know why they do not come that way anyway with all the hooplaw about brake lights and visibility for cars coming up behind you. Is this a kit you have found or just improvising?

it's a fairly easy procedure... i just tap into the existing brake light line, and then from there... i take a 16 gauge wire and put that in the third slot which is connected to the light bracket in the tail light and it works... i'll show the procedure with pictures/steps to get this done.

definitely a very nice style and safety feature...

Ahhh, I see what you are doing. Just went out and looked at the inner tail light for an 06. The light connector will accomodate the third wire, socket has the third pin and it even has a dual element bulb already installed. Wonder why Mazda did not just run the wire from factory?
Question though. What are you going to use on the end of the newly run wire to push into the connector?

simple... i've done this before... you just strip the tubing off the gauge wire about 3/4 of an inch... then you twist it and then curl it into a hook (like a fishing hook). it stays in place very nicely, havent had one fall out of place yet. but to ensure it doesn't, just quickly wrap the wire up the the one beside it with electrical tape.

that is kind of wierd that it is setup like that already....but not done

ha ha

i had some fun with a 240sx where i took out the large square lenses (4 bulbs) and put in two '78 corvette lights. that was a nightmare of wires, but i learned a trick. walmart sells wireing kits for trailers to convert from 3 bulbs to 1 bulb.... the reverse light wires directly up after...

it worked great.

have you noticed any problems with voltage in the lights since you are running two more bulbs off of the original one?
