RE: cai info
From what I understand, there aren't any CAI's that offer bypass valves with our car. This is due to the low placement of our MAF. If you are really that worried about hydrolock you should take the advice I offered before and just do the airbox mod (I placed a link to specific dirrections in your other thread).

RE: cai info
Other than it's tendency to throw CEL's (something most CAI's do with this car unfortunately) it works quite well from what I understand. Though CAI's are largely the same, I mean it's a piece of bent pipe with a filter at on end, So long as it has a place for the MAF, no leaks, and a way to bolt it down in the proper spot in the engine bay there really isn't much difference from one brand to another as far as how they work. The only real differences will be in the quality of the materials used.
The one exception to this is the CPE intake and that is only when you get it with the standback unit that will fool your ecu's A/F readings and thereby give you more power.

RE: cai info
CKeffer, you say the only reason why the CP-E CAI doesn't throw a CEL is because of the standback unit. This unit IS standard when you get the CAI from them, right? I've been looking into a CAI, and have, more-or-less, settled on the CP-E one, mainly because the CEL won't get thrown (the increased power isn'ttoo shabby, either). However, if you have to add a lot of money to their already expensive CAI to prevent a CEL, it might not be worth it.
Also, I know some CAI's come with small water screens on the filter. Is there someplace where one could get this for a CP-E?

RE: cai info
I put an AEM cia on mine a year ago and turned around and sold it because between throttle and no throttle there was a huge dead spot that would jerk the car. Enough to make me take it off and I have delt with all kinds of modded vehicles over the years, even air bags, and the jerk was just to much for me. I'm wanting to get another cai but not if it's gonna jerk my motor like that. What was the cause of that?

RE: cai info
Honestly, I don't know if the standback unit comes with their CAI standard or not, I know they offer them as a package, but they may also sell them seperately (I know you can get the standback unit seperately). As for the hydroshield, I'm pretty sure that you can get them for that CAI, but I'm not certain. Wish I could be more helpful here, but I went the Mazdaspeed route so I know more about the optional stuff for that and the AEM (since they are basically the same unit) than I do about the others.

Anyone considering a CAI should read this thread over at Mazda6club
http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=54105.
One of the most educational threads I have read in along time.
Sweet35th did a airbox mod and was able to get Hp gains similar to those of many CAI's including cpe's with the Mafci and the air box mod is FREE.
