Hey guys. I have an Injen Cold Air Intake and it has given me a check engine light for the longest time. It gives me a "Lean Code". I understand what a lean code is, but I was wondering if anyone was getting the same type of thing with theirs. And if not, what kind of intake do you have?

The Injen will throw a CEL. Only way to get rid of it that I know of is "the fix".

+1 to what Sheldon said. The increased size of the intake pipe causes the MAF to be located out of the center of the tube, this causes it to read differently and is what causes the CEL. The 'fix' compensates for this. You can also use the MAFci box from CPe and gain some extra HP as well as get rid of that pesky CEL.

 

So, would it be more effective to get a cold air intake that doesn't cause the CEL? Or would it be in my best interest to get the 'fix'?

 

The fix, no sense in buying another intake. Just get the black box fix and be done with it.

 

I was going to ask the same question when i saw this old post. The thing about this so called "fix" is that it will take away your CEL but your car will run quite a bit different then it did stock, and not always in a good way.

That is why i still wonder if there is a CAI i can install that will not throw a CEL?

My car with the CEL and the "fix" drives better when i disconnect it and the CEL light is on (but the light annoys me). With the fix it seems to hesitate when you step on the gas or even stutter a bit and then will all of a sudden lunge forward. You get use to it but it is surely not ideal or even safe because you never know when you jump on the gas when the hesitation will stop and the lunge will kick in.

Any suggestions from the experts?

 

Unless you like the extra noise from the CAI, why don't you just put the stock intake back on?

 

The mazdaspeed/AEM intake will not give you a CEL, nor will the CPE with it's MAFCi.

 

How about aem air intakes, I hear a lot of good stuff about them?
