Dead car
Son has a 2009 Mazda 6s. In excellent shape and ran perfect until last Sunday. He drove it in the morning then tried to start it in the afternoon and nothing. The button start had a red light on. I put a new battery in it and nothing still. Lights and locks all work but nothing from the start pushbutton. Took it to the dealer Monday and they still can't figure it out. The steering is locked and nothing responds to the button start. He said the brake sensor is good as the brake lights come on. I can't believe no Mazda service person has ever had the same issue. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have two remotes and one is never used. The dealer has both and I did hold and press the fob to the start button. They have had the car for four days now and say they haven't figured out how to start it. I wonder why they can't just put a new computer and starter button in it?

So, if you ever have the same problems they finally figured out it was a defective steering column sensor that locked up all communication. Said we had to buy two new key fobs and the total is $1300. Pretty expensive fix for an older car but at least they figured it out. Had to contact Mazda corporate for the fix.
