I have a screeching noise from under my Mazda 6 ( 22,000 miles)...Just started...occassionally...does it in idle..or anytime...coming from under the car...does this car have a fuel pump in the gas tank? Have they been know to go bad? Thanks Billfrom pa

 

i actually just read about this problem. heres the deal

i love my car to death. but the fuel pump is S-H-I-T. its passed down from the ford contour. The pump nozzle is VERY prone to getting clogged, thus making a weird noise. if u let it get worse. it might stop pumping all together. This happens especially often when u let the tank run below 1/4th full.

id take it to the dealer asap and let them fix/replace it.

 

if it's the fuel pump, you would here it inside the car as well. it sits right under the center of the rear seat....just put your ear there next time you hear it. if you can't hear it from the seat, it's not the fuel pump.

though i have a 6i, i've been running close to 300hp for over a year now, and have yet to have it show any signs of problems......but it is getting more common with others.

 

What mods do you have that got you close to 300hp?.......My friend has a IS350 pushing 306.....I sooo wanna blow his doors off.

back on topic. yes. u can hear the fuel pump each time u trn the key to start it up. its suposed to have a motorized sound to it. if ur squeaks, or u dont hear it, then u have issues to be fixed.

 

just had mine replaced under warranty last week I have 60,000 km's. It was wining for some time, I would be sitting at the lights and it would start. I would turn the key off and then restart and sometimes the noise would go away, definetly get it replaced or risk being stranded some day

that almost happened to me the other night...
im driving around hamilton, with my gas light on, couldnt find a gas station anywhere... i finaly did find one tho, thank god... cuz i dont know hamilton at all...

and i think the HiBoost kit will be my first mod to the car after i buy it out of the lease... 500 whp with forged internals or whatever... it'll be sick
