Fuel Pump Problem
Hi
I bought a 2004 used Mazda 6 Diesel TS in May with very low mileage. The warranty on the car had just run out. The car ran great for six weeks and then it started occassionally stalling when I was stationary. I took it into two different garages and neither could find a fault and I was told to leave it and letthe faultdevelop. Eventually a Mazda dealership found that it was losing fuel pressure intermitantly and explained that the fuel pump needed refurbishing. Aparently this is a common problem on the Mazda 6 and it is an expensive repair outside the warranty.
Last week I had the pump repaired and it is now back at the garage as it very quickly went back to stalling when stationary. When they repaired the car they also found that thecam belt had slipped a tooth and had to realign it.
If you have experieced a similar problem with your 6 with it stalling when stationary can you let me know what the problem was and how you or a garage repaired the problem?
TIA

RE: Fuel Pump Problem
So far the garage found that the hydraulic timing belt tensioner was leaking oil and not always tightening the belt when starting the car which caused the cam belt to slip a tooth and knock the timing out, so the engine would stop. They fixed that and I had the car back a week and it went back to normal.
The mechanic told me it is a common problem on the fuel pump (especially on diesels). The suction valve at the back of the pump is usually the problem, it fails around the 30k mark. They prefer to get the pumps refurbished because they will last longer than putting a new one in.
My car is still with the garage and I'll post again if it is ever repaired.
