good snow tires
I'm the new owner of a 05 6 and need to replace two of my tires. Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 is what is already on, Dunn Tire representative told me that those are probably the best all season tires for 17". I live in Buffalo and therefore have a lot of snow, my previous car a 92 Cavalier was excellent in the snow with sticky tires and I'm hoping for to find out what good tires are for this car.

No wayMichelin is the best. Do some research @ www.tirerack.com, I like the survey results. You should always get 4 new tires. But if you must, put the 2 new one at the back regardless of FWD or RWD to avoid fishtailling. If you plan on keeping the car for more than a few yrs, I say get4 winter tires on rims. Your actual cost for safety is only about $200 for the steel rims because you don't have to replace the regular tires that often since they will be takingwinter breaks.

I couldn't agree with RX4to6 more. You really need to get four snow tires and while I like Michelin tires for everyday driving, they don't make the best snow tires. That's according to Tire Rack and based on my experience in NH snow. I just purchased (4) 215/50R-17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60's from Tire Rack. Tire Rack tests all of their tires and they felt this was the best tire for the -6 in snow and ice conditions. They are remarkably smooth and quiet on the highway for a snow tire. I haven't used them yet in deep snow(we had light snow yesterday) but can attest to Blizzak performance. I have them on my truck and my wife's SUV and they perform extremely well in the snow. I expect the same from the WS-60's

I hated the stock Michelins in the snow. Always run snow tires at all 4 corners, otherwise your 2 tires with the snows will have enough traction for the corner you are in, and the other 2 won't (spin city.)
I've got Dunlop Wintersports on my wife's car and they are awesome in all weather, but really excel in the snow/slush/ice.

RE: good snow tires
I know the Blizzak tires are the best for snow. Also, the stock Michelins are not good for snow. I live in Minnesota. I need new tires. HELP!!! I would like a semi-aggressive tread for Minnesota winters. The stock Michelins are quiet but not good in snow.I have 44,000 miles on my 6s. I plan on selling it in the spring of 2009 which means I have this winter and next winter to go. It doesn't make sense for me to get extra tires and rimsnow. I will probably put 12,000-15,000 more miles on the car. Do any of you "winter" folks have a tire to suggest? HELP!!!!

I have Sumitomo HR+ (I think) on my '03 6s and they do very well in the snow. I usually put snow tires on due to poor performance I experiencedwith the stock tires that came on the car, but last year I got stuck in an early snowstorm with these on and they did great. I drove 65 miles home from work during a snowstorm with no problems. They got good ratings on tirerack.com for all-seasons and they weren't too expensive.

RE: good snow tires
I just ordered a set of Goodyear Assurance Triple Tred tires. I looked on the website of Tirerack.com. They rated the Goodyears as the best tires for snow and ice that were all-season tires. I hope the ratings and surveys will be correct. Tire Rack has customer reviews and surveys of different tires. The tires are on back order. I should get them next week. I will report back how happy I will be with them. I usually don't buy 2 sets of tires (winter/summer) so I need the best all around tires for Minnesota winters. My Mazda6 is a great handling car. I also live in a metro area where the roads are usually plowed a day after a snow storm so the front wheel drive and good tires are usually sufficient for me.
