Default hello all!:)

Howdy yall. I recently just bought a 2006 Mazda6 with the 2.3L DOHC.... so ya i am a noob lol.
BUUUTTT anyways it came with 88-89k miles and honestly i thought i was gonna buy an accord but fell in love with the 6 as soon as i test drove it. So i will have a lot of questions bc i dont know anyone in town that know alot about mazdas.
but i guess the first couple questions i have are regarding little things or tricks about mazdas.
what are common problems regarding mazda 6?

and also i would love to turn my 6 into a nice highway runner and id like to push around 200-250 hp on it and was wondering what aftermarket parts would help me achieve that. ive already thought about a cold air intake but idk if its a good idea here cause it can rain alot here and dont wanna risk an engine full of water lol

if yall could direct me to other forums or just answer the questions that would be freaking awsome. Thanks and gig em

Don't let me discourage you, but, unless you get a turbo kit the 200-250hp may be out of reach. aside from completely rebuilding the engine and going with higher compression pistons, milling the head, intake manifold, cai, header, catless exhaust, stand alone ecu... maybe you should have looked for the v-6, but I may be wrong

not to mention the 4k price tag. I believe your engine is rated at 160 hp... if you add the cai, header, and exhaust you may be looking at 170, which is not bad. 200-250 hp is a long stretch

Highest numbers I've seen from a 2.3 is around 175-180ish hp, and there was little left of the stock parts on that thing. You may be able to reach the 200hp mark after tuning comes out, but it's still gonna take a lot of work, and you'll probably have to change out some of the internals as well to get there.

hey guys thanks for the help!
yea i figured getting to 250 mark would be hard/pricey but i didnt think alot more would be needed just to reach 180 lol but oh well

one other question, im more familiar with how hondas and vtecs work for there dohc... is it the same for mazdas? as in, does the dohc kick in at a certain rpm? and what rpm does it kick in?
