How does the Speed 6 compare?

RE: How does the Speed 6 compare?
Hey guys, just a newb and checking out the info on Speed6's. I had a 2002 Mustang GT that got destroyed in June of '05. It was totaled and I had to get a car within a week. I hate buying cars fast without researching, so I settled on an '02 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. It's alright, pretty quick for what it is, but it's front wheel drive and that drives me crazy. It's the only front wheel drive car I've ever had and it's just not right. I'm just not used to how they react in certain situations. I've decided that I can't have a rear wheel drive car as a daily driver because of our winters in Ohio. I've been looking at the Speed6 Grand Touring and trying to get all the info. I have one friend with an '03 Evo 8 and one with an '03 STI. They're all about me getting a Speed6 just because they're interested in the competition. I doubt I'd be able to beat them with the mods they have, but it would be nice to be close. I'm also interested if anyone has any VIN decoding info for them. Most dealers don't know how to list them and I'd really like to have the Grand Touring rather than the Sport. I don't want to drive 100 miles to test drive the wrong car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Lisa

The Car and Driver numbers for the Speed 6 are 0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 mile in 14 flat.

As far as competition, I wouldn't even consider going up against an evo. Those were running 13s in the 1/4 mile. Depending on the driver and the mods, an STI or SRT4 could be good competition.

RE: How does the Speed 6 compare?
15 Secs in this car in the 1/4 sounds pretty weak. As I posted a couple days ago, I totally destroyed an LT1 Trans AM. I don't know what they run in the quarter, but I'm pretty sure they're faster than a Stang GT. I know, car to car, and EVO and even STi is faster, but it all boils down to the driver in these cars. I took an STi Through 4th gear, but he didn't pass until shifting 5-6. I know an EVO is even faster, but I wouldn't think about taking the 1200 mile trip I took last month in an EVO. My whole body aches just thinking about it. So does my wallet, since these cars are significantly lower priced than an EVO or STi. I'll try and get my speed 6 down to California Speedway or Perris Speedway and let you guys know what I run.
As far as VIN decoding, I don't know what to tell you Lisa. If it's a speed 6, cloth interior is Sport, Leather is GT. You can also log on to Mazdausa.com and go to the Specifications section. You'll see the options and standard equipment, that should help decipher what model(s) they have at the dealer. Pretty sad if the dealer doesn't know what they have, heck, they can just look at the window sticker. I'll see what I can dig up though.
