Will the Immobilizer system light in my dash that blinks constantly drain my battery?

I recently bought a year old Mazda 6 and for the first month I had it the immobilizer light in the dash never blinked. This weekend it started blinking, will this drain my battery or is this what it is supposed to do. It seems like the manual is indicating that this is what should behappening with the flashing light, I am only concerned since it didn't do it for the first month I had it.
