New to site...Need help! My 06 Mazda6 will randomly jerk into 3rd gear, engine light & AT light come on. It will not leave 3rd gear until Iturn the car off and restart then theproblem is gone. It will happen daily for a while and then stop for while. Naturally, the car will not repeat the issue when the dealer has it! They say it's fine. Any ideas?

 

your going to have to keep taking it back to the dealer most of the time they will drive around their lot and if it doesnt happen then they just say nothing is wrong with it. When you take it to the dealer ask if one of them can go for a ride with you and you can try to reproduce the problem on the road there is definately something messed up either you need a reflash or there is something actualy wrong with it. most likely just a reflash it sounds like a software issue.

 

If your car stays in 3rd gear and wont go into any lower or higher gears, and reverse still works, most likely it is in limp mode. Which means there is a problem with your transmision or you TCM. To prevent further damage to your transmission your TCM goes into limp mode, giving you limited use to get you some were to get it fixed.

I don't know what is going on with yours but I got stuck in 3rd the other week for about a 1/4 mile. Been fine since but it has prompted me to get a transmission cooler.
