You could go to the Tire Rack web site and select wheels for the Protege 5, the 626 and your 6 and then compare their specs with respect to number of holes, the diameter if the bolt circle and the rim width.

Mazda6 has a 5x114.3mm bolt pattern. Stock size wheel was I believe a 16x6.5 with a 55mm offset. (or 17x7 w/60mm offset)

The Protege5 tires you have listed would be quite a bit smaller than what you have stock, not sure if the wheels are the same bolt pattern/offset

The 626 tires are a little smaller, again not sure about the bolt pattern/offset.

Hi! I got the 626 mags and they are the same radius (16 inch) and tire width. The only difference is the height ratio...I have no idea what and offset is...You guyz think it should be ok?

I called mazda on the phone they said it should fit tough...

The 626 tires are a little shorter than the stock Mazda6 tires, so your speedo/odometer will be off just a little (not a big deal though)

If you've got them already, bolt one of them on the front and turn the tire back/forth and see if you clear, then bolt one on back and bounce on the suspension. That's the best way to confirm if anything hits.

Actually, I have mazda 6 tires that i want to install on 626 mags...so the tire height should be the same as before (right?).
I should be able to install them since they are same radius(16 inch) and width (205). Is that correct?

Thx for your responses guyz! ( and girls if you are present...)

Tire height is a little different between the (2). Tire sizes work like this:

205/55R16

205 is the width of the tire in millimeters
55 is the aspect ratio (determines sidewall height from the rim) - 55% of the 205mm or 112.75mm tall (60 would be 123mm)
16 is the rim diameter in inches

If you take the width of the tire, multiply it by the aspect ratio, multiply that by 2, then add the rim diameter, you can get the overall height of the tire. (don't forget to convert the wheel diameter to metric - 25.4mm/1 inch)

(205*(.55))*2 + (16*25.4)= 631.9mm
(205*(.60))*2 + (16*25.4)= 652.4mm

Overall diameter they are 20.5mm (0.8") taller.

My main concern would be if the backspacing/offset of the wheel is correct to keep the tire properly positioned in the wheelwell (some wheels will pull the overall tire/wheel in towards the car, some position them further out toward the wheelwell lip.)

The tires should work just fine (Mazda6 tires on a Mazda6), but here is how you can see if the wheel is the same offset.

Using a string with a weight on it, place it at the 12 o'clock position of the wheelwell lip so that it is centered on the tire. Measure the distance from this string to the face of the wheel (perpendicular measurement.)

Mount up the 626 wheel (without the tire) and do the same thing. If there is little or no difference between the 2 measurements, you should be just fine. I'd want to keep the difference less than 10mm

I just checked online to see what the offset is...
the 626 16 inch mags i have have an offset of 45mm
whereas the mazda 6 16 inch mags have an offset of 55mm
which is exactly a 10mm offset...should it be ok? Does that mean that the wheels will be 10mm more inwards? Is that bad?
Can I do anything to remedy this?

Thx

Were both a 6.5" wide rim? if yes, then the 45mm offset with actually sit 10mm further out of the wheelwell (It should still fit just fine though....probably will look pretty good, there's definitely room for 10mm movement out.)

Offset is a measurement from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel.

i.e. zero offset would mean the mounting surface of the wheel is exactly in the middle of the wheel (3.25" in from front or back.) 45mm positive offset means the mounting surface is 45mm further out from the center of the wheel.
