Mazda 6s or 6i? Relaibility?
I'm seriously thinking about buying one of these cars, butI'm wondering if either of these cars have any reliability issues, like what to look for. I've been reading upon these carson other forums as well, and it seems like they're not exactly the most reliable cars? Whats youropinion on it? I just want to make sure. Also, are there advantages togettingthe 6i with its inline 4 cylinder engine? Besides the obvious like better gas mileage, I'm guessingthere aremore aftermarket parts for it?

I've had my '04 6s Wagon for almost a year now, and do not regret it at all. It's got about 41k miles on it, and I have had no reliability problems whatsoever. The transmissions get a bad rap, but I'd be curious to see how many trannies have gone bad compared to a total number of how many are out there (a huge number, to be sure). I wonder what the ratio truly is? If you buy one of these cars, I think you'll like it.

Hi. You raise a good question. However, the Mazda 6 is a very reliable car. I have two Mazda 6's. One with 18,700 miles and mine with 31,000. Both have been trouble free. I have spent just $80 on oil changes over the 3 years I have owned the cars. Just because you read a forum and read about the problems a car has does not mean it is a bad car. Alot of people join this sitejust to complain. But realistically most people do not have any problems at all.

It is a good car. You will always hear about problems on forums, thats a big chunk of forums. I have a 2005 Mazda 6i, and it has 57,800 roughly on it. I purchased a longer bumper-bumper warranty from Tasca Mazda, and it was through 100,000 miles and through Mazda as well. I had a couple of TSB fixes that were free before 50,000 (the man. warranty expires.) and at 52,000 my heater control unit failed, and they said that usually doesn't fail much, came to 1300, only had to pay a 50$ deductable. Now my rear window washer fluid pump went. Not bad for being at 57,800, just always change your oil and all the fluids...Great Car. in 05 I believe mazda had sold/hit the one millionth 6 sold! 1,000,000!!! Fastest selling mazda car ever! So the ratio to cars sold/being repaired is low, but the actually number of 6's on the road is high...

I have a '05 6s dr with 25k on the clock. I'm having some issues on startup with my car at the moment, though I'm pretty sure it's a minor thing. I really do enjoy my car, this is the first issue I've had with it...that wasn't my fault anyways

I have a 2006 6S that had a little over 27,000 miles on it. I'm at around 33,000 miles now and was surprised when the CEL came on about two months ago. As it turned out, the gas cap was defective and was not sealing properly. A very minor fix that cost me nothing. Interestingly, my last car (a '97 Protege') had the CEL come on early too. It was also a very minor issue (loose spark plug) and that car lasted me for 10 years and went well over 200,000 miles.

Hey, I've had my '04 Mazda 6i for a little over a year now and have no mechanical problems whatsoever. I can also vouch for its starting ability as I am from North Dakota where it is obviously freezing in the winter. I unfortunately had to leave my car outside on a night where it dropped to -45 degrees with the wind chill and it fired right up in the morning. My 6i has 32,000 miles on it and I have seen no problems with it so far. It's a very fun car.
