mazda6 gas milage
just got a 2007 mazda6 2.3L 153 HP with 20k miles and through the first tank of gas i was getting around 21 mpg, not terrible but not even close to the advertised 24/32, i did drive it a little hard so i figured that couldve been a factor
but i just recently went through a 2nd tank of gas and i drove it as conservatively as i can, i mean i drove it like a grandma...and im still getting 21-22 mpg...
any one have a clue as to why?

Where are you driving? If it's anywhere like my area, lots of small streets with plenty of lights/stop signs, that will kill you. The reason highway economy is better is because you're traveling at a constant speed - something you don't get with city or aforementioned driving.
I try to keep my foot evenly on the throttle, and I rarely rev past 2000...but my car is a different machine altogether. But, if I can get 18.5 mpg on Staten Island with my car, would should be getting the advertised 24 mpg with your 2.3L Mazda 6...for what it's worth, the dealer advertised 17 city/ 26 highway for my car ('04 Malibu, 3.5L).

well i am driving a mix of highway and city, more city
its not like it is stop and go traffic all day, i mean there are plenty of stop signs and lights but its not too bad
i definitely should be getting more than what im getting though

its an auto with tiptronic which i use about 1/3 of the time and when i do use it i shift at 3500 or less, usually near 3500 if im trying to pull out fast but once i get into 3rd gear its not more than 2500

RE: mazda6 gas milage
The higher you shift, the more gas you use..I almost always shift below 2000 revs, but I've got a V6 so it handles that easily. 4 Cylinder engines need to rev higher to keep power, but still, 2400 revs or so should do fine.
Leave your car in full auto for a while and let it shift lower, or simple shift at lower points yourself. You should see and improvement in mileage.

What is your highway mileage? 21 is reasonable for city on a 6 with a 2.3. If you don't get 27+ on the highway, you may have a problem. I have a toyota solara with a 2.2 4 cylinder, and it gets 28 on the highway consistently. I don't know about city, though.

Same old. Same old. Same old.The Mazda6 is a great car. I have the Mazda6s. Automatic V-6 220hp. The best I can get on the highway is 25mpg with the cruise set at 65-70mph for hours. Mazdas look great, handle great, ride great. However, they all get poor mileage compared to other cars in its class. I know I will get flack on this but SORRY, it is true. It is what it is. Ford engines are not know for mileage. I get around 21mpg with my combined driving which is probably 70% highway. The Mazda3 for 2008 is rated at 22/29. PERSONALLY, I think that is too low.

And about the 3, are those the figures for the 2.3L hatchback? I know the 2.3L used to get around 24/31 in the old 6, so are you sure? Unless it's a different engine..
