Mazda6 gas mileage

Mazda6 gas mileage
This is my first thread on this forum. I picked up my Mazda6 on Dec. 9, 2002. Yes, 2002. It has every option that Mazda offered for 2003. It is my wife's car. She loves it. It handles better than any car she has previously owned. I can't believe how quiet this car is. We usually take my car on trips. I HAD a 2000 Chrysler LHS. It got 27-28 mpg on trips. Not bad for that size of car. This summer I sold the LHS so we took the Mazda6 with the 220 HP V6 automatic trans on our trip. The BEST mileage I got while averaging around 70 mph was 25.8. Usually it was around 25.2. That was with the cruise control set at around 70. What kind of mileage does every one get with this car. I am VERY disappointed with the mileage. Any ideas??

RE: Mazda6 gas mileage
The duratec V6 is kindof a guzzler of a 6 cyl. mazda advertises 20/27mpg on the 07 models, so that's right in the range. I have an '06 speed six, and I got a high of 28.6mph on fwy averaging 80 but going quite a bit faster for a few passing opportunities, and down to 25.7. The funny thing is mazda advertises 19/25mph for the speed 6, but I'm not complaining.

RE: Mazda6 gas mileage
I have a 2006 V6 with manual tranny. Got 25 mpg on the highway doing around 80 mph with a few blasts @ 100. I say that's not bad. But mpg depends a lot on the driver. I think I can get 28 to 30 if I stick with 60 mph, but I want some fun with the V6.

RE: Mazda6 gas mileage
When i was researching my sportwagon that is one con that was mentioned on edmunds.com among owners about the gas mileage. I wish the car had a trip computer but I should be able to use the Trip A/B to calculate highway rides. I like to drive my cars in town always below 3000 rpms and get on it on the highway and the entrance ramps.
FYI...on the mileage on your older LHS. The gearing on the overdrive could be really tall so you may have been cruising at 65mph with 1400 rpms. GM purposely puts tall gearing on their overdrive so they can get really good gas mileage on the highway. When it is time to scoot then you have to depend on the kickdown/downshift for passing power.

RE: Mazda6 gas mileage
I travelled nearly 500 miles for Thanksgiving festivities, about 3/4 of which was hwy cruising. I got 24-25 mpg for the whole trip. Not great, but better than the Isuzu Trooper that we had before this car! Cheer all, and happy Thanksgiving!

RE: Mazda6 gas mileage
I'm new to this forum, but just started searching today for this same info. I have an 06 V-6 and average a mear 21mpg. This is my wife's car, but I use it to drive 30 miles a day to my job. Is there anything a guy can do to improve the mileage??[:@] I also wanted to note that we had an 05 Nissan Altima 3.5/V-6 (heavier and more HP) before this and we were averaging 25mpg.

Autoanything has the best prices for mods that I have found so far. I have a AEM cai on my 2004 6s and if I stay out of the gas I can get 27mpg on the hwy. But I am generally very heavy on the pedal and get about 19-21 average.
