Need to replace a clutch

Need to replace a clutch
Well it looks I've had the same premature clutch failure that has been posted here before. It happened to me later, 46,000 miles, but that's still too early to wear out a clutch. It's out of warranty, and the dealer wants $1,500 for the "value" parts replacement.
So how hard is it to replace a clutch? I'm not a gear head, but I am mechanically inclined and I can follow directions. If this is something that can be done in an afternoon with a parts kit, a torque wrench and a repair manual I'm inclined to give it a shot. If I go that route, is there a make/model of clutch other than the OEM one that folks recommend?
I also have the clutter chattering problem that is apparently addressed in TSB 05-003/05. Should that factor into my plans here?
Thanks for any advice you guys can give me!

RE: Need to replace a clutch
I got a clutch installed for 7 bills in a day.But when i got the car at 8000 miles the clutch went out and i fought the dealer toothand nail to repalce it for free.I bugged them so much they did it.i reffered to the way they advertise the mazda6 being drivin in the commercial and called them hypocrits but it ended up working.

Unfortunately with our 6, most of the front end has to be removed to lower the trans out of the car. I have spoken to different Mazda speciality shops quoting about 10hrs for the replacement of the clutch.
