Default Oil usage Mazda 6

My daughters car is an 04 Mazda 6...6 cylinder. It burns a quart of oilk every 2 weeks. There is no oil smoke and no leaks. Is this normal? I think not but you never know.

This seems to be a bit of a recurring theme with the V6; I don't have one but as I understand it, the first thing you should check/have checked is the PCV system.

Check/change your PCV NOW. I'd wager it's what's wrong. When they go bad, they don't close-off under acceleration and they allow oil to be drawn into the intake, and subsequently into the cylinders.

Thank you guys for the suggestion on the PCV. That makes sense because the plugs are fouled.

a quick peak in your air cleaner may confirm this. When I saw oil on my air filter, and a rotted oily intake hose between the filter air box and intake manifold, that led me to have my dealership confirm that my PVC valve was gone too. I just picked it up today. Btw, 67k miles on my '04.

Thanks Timbuk3....I will check it today. Since I first posted, the clutch went out, so $1200 later we just got the car back. I am going to get the PCV valve and check the air filter. Valuable answers I got from everybody....Thanks.
